There are 10 fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackling the blaze at the residential block in Queens Road West in Plaistow.
Fire is pouring out of the windows A tower block in east London is on fire with flames seen pouring out of the windows. The fire is located in a 10th floor flat out of a building made of 15 floors, with both the balcony and the inside of the flat alight. It’s believed to be located at a residential block off Queens Road West, not far from the John F Kennedy School, Plaistow Primary School and Children’s Centre, and St Mary the Virgin Church. About 30 people have been evacuated from the building.
More than 30 calls reporting the fire have been made, and the first fire engines arrived on the scene just after 8am. The LFB says the cause of the fire isn’t yet known, but that the fire was brought under control at about 9am and that it’s being investigated by specialist fire investigators. It’s only been a couple of months since a major incident was declared in east London after a fire tore through a block of flats.
