BREAKING: Major incident declared as huge fire breaks out at recycling centre
A fire ‘the size of a football pitch’ has broken out on a heap of shredded household waste at a recycling centre in GreaterCrews from 10 fire stations have been called to tackle the blaze, at Viridor Recycling Centre at Pilsworth, Bury. Junction 3 on the M66 has now been closed due to the fire, and diversions are being put in place, Bury Council said.
Paul Duggan, Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Service Area Manager, said firefighters had been on the scene for around seven hours this morning.
