Huge fire that tore through mill being treated as arson
A huge fire that tore through a mill in Trafford is being treated as arson by cops. Greater Manchester Police said an investigation continues, but it is suspected the blaze was deliberately started.
Sergeant Richard Lees said: "Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation into the fire and are treating it as suspected arson at this time. "I would also like to reassure members of the public that this is being treated as an isolated incident with no further risk to the wider public and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to determine the full circumstances."
The council said its planning team had been 'in initial discussions over potential development proposals'. One man who lives nearby said: "The lights woke me up early this morning, about half five. I looked out of my window and I could just see all the smoke. There was so much of it, it was a very smoky fire. And it didn't go away all morning. It's a big building but it's been empty all the time I've lived here, about a year and a half.
