Poniente and Levante beaches have been carved up in to 5,000 13x13ft sunbathing squares, with a maximum of four people per space allowed.
At Levante, sun seekers must reserve a space online or book at a reservation stand. Benidorm Council said in a statement on Friday that the beach had reached near maximum capacity during most of the day and 80 % of space had already been reserved on Saturday just two and a half hours after the booking system launched.
It is only possible to book one day in advance. 1,000 people were in the online queue to book a slot for this morning, while the evening shift for Saturday was sold out.
