Nottingham Forest are ready to abandon plans to move to a new stadium as they close in on an agreement to remain at the City Ground - their iconic home for the last 125 years.
Forest and the city council have been in dispute for some time over the lease of the City Ground, with the local authority reportedly wanting to increase the rent they are paid from £250,000 a year up to £1m.READ MORE: Carlos Miguel 'set for medical' at Nottingham Forest However, according to The Athletic’s Daniel Taylor, progress has now been made that would mean Forest soon being in a position to press ahead with plans to turn the City Ground into a 40,000-seat stadium. A significant amount of planning has already taken place for the development of the Peter Taylor Stand.
“Amid a series of claims and counter-claims, it also emerged that the club had spent several months looking at a proposed site in Toton, six miles out of the city centre, for a new 50,000-capacity stadium.
