Hugh Grant has revealed he was left unimpressed by the script for his character for the upcoming fourth Bridget Jones movie - so he took matters into his own hands and penned some of his own scenes

Hugh Grant has revealed that he "wrote some scenes" to ensure his character, Daniel Cleaver, was included in Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy. The 64 year old actor is set to return to the romantic comedy franchise, starring Renee Zellweger , after not appearing in the previous film, Bridget Jones's Baby.

So, Hugh took control and "wrote some scenes" himself, which were incorporated into the story. He added: "It's absolutely the best , and I think it's very funny and very, very moving." Hugh first portrayed womanising boss Daniel Cleaver in the original 2011 Bridget Jones's Diary film alongside Renee and Colin Firth, a role that allowed him to break away from his heartthrob image. He confessed: "There are people in my life who have always said, 'Oh, that's much more like the real Hugh.'"

British author Helen Fielding previously said she had decided to write Bridget’s love interest Mark Darcy, played by Oscar winner Colin Firth, out of the third book in the popular series because she didn’t want Bridget to become “a smug married”.
