Humza Yousaf has called for the English Defence League to be proscribed under terrorism laws following a riot in Southport last night.
The violence flared in Southport following the brutal murder of three young girls in Southport on Monday. The attacker, a 17-year-old male from Cardiff, was arrested at the scene. “One of the immediate steps, in your gift as Home Secretary, is to proscribe the English Defence League, and their proxies, under the Terrorism Act 2000.”
She said that the “violence and abuse” towards police officers on Tuesday was “utterly abhorrent and completely unacceptable”. Despite a steady drop in activity over the past decade, EDL members are known to gather after certain events to express anti-Islam views.
