The First Minister followed in the footsteps of Nicola Sturgeon and Alex Salmond by spending the night at the Royal Family's private estate in Aberdeenshire.

Humza Yousaf spent the weekend at Balmoral Castle as a guest of King Charles for the first time since becoming First Minister.

Yousaf, who succeeded Nicola Sturgeon as First Minister earlier this year, has previously met with the King and attended his coronation at Westminster Abbey in May. The late Queen was known to love the Victorian castle and spent her final days there before her death last September. Yousaf previously admitted it would feel “strange” and “uncomfortable” to attend the King’s coronation as a republican.
