Humza Yousaf has been voted in as the sixth First Minister of Scotland
He becomes the youngest person to hold the top job in Scottish politics as well as the first from a minority ethnic background.
But each of those runners fell at the first hurdle, allowing Yousaf to be declared the winner by Presiding Officer Alison Johnstone. The new SNP leader said: “It’s also quite a signal of the progress that we have made as a country, as well as a parliament, that two of the candidates putting themselves forward are from minority ethnic communities.
“The fact that no-one bats an eyelid at this tells me we are making progress in our nation for which we should all be very, very proud.”
