Thu, April 4th 2024 at 6:22 PMHundreds of thousands of prospective college students ‘in limbo’ amid FAFSA issues school.Congress mandated changes to the FAFSA form to simplify it, like streamlining 103 questions down to 20, but the changes have created problems. Specifically, the tax data of potentially one million forms submitted by students and families this year is possibly wrong.

Katie Lesko, Vice President of Enrollment Management at Russell Sage College, says they've been trying to get ahead of this, with students needing to make decisions soon: "Colleges started to move to a June 1st deadline, or May 15th, June 1st deadline... We went early for June 1st because it just made no sense to add more stress... I think the encouraging message is packages are going out. Families should file the FAFSA if they haven't already yet, especially because there's a bottleneck,” Lesko tells CBS 6.to help colleges, because now there are concerns financial aid applications are down so far this year, thanks to the issues.
