However police said only a handful made claims for the compensation

Almost 450 "zombie-style" were handed in to police in Nottinghamshire after owners were offered cash for surrendering them - but only a handful made claims for the compensation. The blades became illegal to own or keep in a private place in the UK for any reason on Tuesday under new legislation.

The force said "only a handful of people" made claims for compensation in Nottinghamshire, with other owners instead dropping them into one of the force’s knife amnesty bins. “The best way to do this is to make use of the four amnesty bins set up all year-round inside our stations, where blades can be dropped off anonymously without any fear of reprisal.”
