The Huntsville City Council has approved engineering design contracts for the $65 million Pinhook Creek project that includes the a suspension pedestrian bridge, linear park and flood mitigation.
“It’s a three-span cable bridge, but it’s much more than that,” said Huntsville Urban and Economic Development Director Shane Davis. “Due to the unique design of this, it will actually be model-scale built and go through wind tunnel testing.”But he and District 3 City Councilwoman Jennie Robinson pointed out the bridge is needed for safety reasons.
“Unfortunately, we’re having about 1.6 a year,” Davis said. “We’ve had as high as five a year. That’s why the grant was so competitive. One of these grants was reconnecting communities.” An almost $1 million contract with Garver LLC will outline plans for Pinhook Creek channel improvements. The contract scope includes permitting, structural design, hardscape and landscape features.
