James Hurrell has shared his experience with a health scare that nearly cost him his life before his debut at Alexandra Palace. Hurrell secured his spot in the next round with a convincing victory against Canada's Jim Long. During his post-match press conference, Hurrell expressed his gratitude to his surgeon, saying, 'I was that close to dying. So all the hard work pays off.
' The 40-year-old is now excited to face Michael van Gerwen later this week, acknowledging the challenge but eagerly anticipating the match. Hurrell, who last reached the third round in 2011, is the third seed in this year's tournament. He emphasized that everyone is beatable and aims to maintain his form from the previous round. Hurrell is making his first appearance at Ally Pally as a PDC Tour card holder, marking the end of his first year on the tour. He has already earned £15,000 in prize money by reaching the second round and amassed £30,750 in winnings prior to the World Championship. Hurrell qualified for the Players Championship Finals by making three quarter-finals, but exited in round one. The winner of his clash with Van Gerwen will face either 30th seed Brendan Dolan, Chris Landman, or Lok Yin Lee in the third round
