Jacqueline Herling discovered her husband's infidelity with a member of staff at their pub, The Beehive Inn. After a heated confrontation, she reduced her role at the pub but was eventually dismissed without notice by her husband.
A husband who fired his wife after she discovered he was having an affair with an employee on CCTV has been ordered to pay her nearly £10,000 in compensation. Jacqueline Herling took legal action against her husband following the discovery of his indiscretion with a member of staff at the pub they both worked at, The Beehive Inn in Combs, near Buxton.
The mother of two confronted her spouse Stefan Herling and during a heated argument stated that she 'would not set foot in the pub again', subsequently reducing her role to 'occasional duties', according to what was revealed at an employment tribunal. Despite continuing to receive her usual salary for four months, she was abruptly given a P45 by her head chef husband without prior notice. Mrs Herling has now been awarded £9,676 after successfully suing her former partner of 19 years—and the family company owning the Peak District pub—for unfair and wrongful dismissal, unauthorised pay deductions, and victimisation. The tribunal in Manchester was told that Mrs Herling began working part-time at the pub in 2003. She and Stefan became a couple in 2005, welcomed their first child in 2007, and got married the next year. They then moved into accommodation above the pub and managed it together, with Mrs Herling receiving a 'nominal' tax-free salary of £9,000 annually, reports the Mirror. 'On 30 May 2022, confronted because she had discovered he had been having an affair with the sous-chef,' the tribunal heard. ' initially denied it, until explained that she had seen CCTV footage. There was a row. The gist of what was said by was that she wanted nothing more to do with the pub and that she would not set foot in the pub again. 'However, did not leave.
