Nermina Pieters-Mekic has officially launched her own business, combining two of her passions – fashion and horses
Nermina Pieters-Mekic is a model, trained legal advisor, singer-songwriter, showjumper and former reality star. But, keen to continue to carve out a successful future for herself and her family, she’s added another string to her bow.
“So I said something like, ‘At least I’m trying to look fashionable in them,’ and that’s how the seed was planted. I thought 'well, actually, I am wearing this all the time'. People see me in all these fashionable clothes at these big events and on socials but the reality is, in day-to-day life, I’m with the horses every day.”
But one thing that remained constant throughout her early, traumatic life was horses. “My parents had to flee and my dad’s sisters, my aunties, were all in Germany and their daughters were five/six years older than I was and they had horses,” she explained. “So at the weekend when we’d visit the families, I’d ride their horses. The passion started then.
“I’ve always loved fashions so I’ve always thought how amazing would it be to design your own dresses and to have your own range of clothes but it was never that convincing to me until I planted that seed and I was like, Oh my God, I can make these kinds of breeches and make a crossover between your everyday life and riding,’” Nermina said.
“Back then I was like, ‘where do I start?’ I went onto Google, YouTube, [asking] ‘how do you start your own brand? What do you need?’” But it wasn’t just online sources as she also had a few people she could call on.
