Retail EV sales climbed 27%, but consumers turned their back on the Ioniq 6
Hyundai Motor America had its best August on record as the company sold 79,278 vehicles last month. The automaker has sold 548,003 vehicles in the past eight months, which is up 4% from a year ago. Sonata sales soared 75%, but the Ioniq 6 is struggling. Hyundai has a lot to celebrate as they achieved record August sales in the United States. The automaker sold 79,278 vehicles last month, which was a 22% increase from a year ago.
On the bright side, that’s 800 units more than the Nexo FCEV, which generated a mere 8 sales. Car sales were surprisingly strong as the Elantra was up 28%, while the Sonata soared 75%. The Sonata’s strong showing could continue in the future as Hyundai recently announced the 2025 model will offer an entry-level SE trim that lowers the price to $26,650. That’s $850 less than its predecessor, but a number of features have been cut to lower the price of entry.
