You can even spice up your life with a Spice Girl sandwich
Ever since I visited Nottingham tea room Biscuit & Brew for an interview when it first opened I've been itching to return to sample the menu. With a friend wanting to meet up in the city centre for a cuppa, I suggested we go there for lunch instead.
Biscuit & Brew isn't about PG Tips and a bourbon. The cafe, one of the few in the city to make drinks with loose-leaf tea rather than bags, has a long, long list of brews. As you'd expect there's all the traditional teas such as English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Assam, green tea, chamomile and peppermint. Japanese matcha features too.
I'm usually the kind of person who dips a teabag in a mug for about ten seconds because I'm not a builder's brew fan but on this occasion, I do as I'm told. While I wait I notice a couple of more senior ladies enjoying afternoon tea and a student, with her attention focused on her laptop rather than the tempting piece of cake next to her.
Phil chooses Monte Cristo and I opt for Spice Girl, partly because it sounds intriguing and partly because it gives me the excuse to use plenty of puns. It's so very tempting to say to the server: "Yo, I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want," but I resist to save embarrassment all around in the cafe, where now piling in are a mix of older couples and a group of bohemian-style girls, in their late teens or early 20s.
