The weeds shrivelled up quickly and were easy to remove
Weeds rank amongst the most troublesome issues for gardeners, and they can return seemingly overnight. These unwanted plants rapidly grow between patio slabs and paving stones.
I typically remove weeds manually, but it's an exhausting task. This year, weeds appear to have grown more than ever across my garden's paved surfaces. I'm not keen on chemical weed killers, as my garden is full of plants and wildlife. After discovering an online trick suggesting three everyday household products can eliminate weeds, I thought I'd try it myself.
I was doubtful about how effective a natural homemade weed killer would actually be, particularly given the abundance of weeds I needed to tackle. However, the outcome left me surprised. Using a spray bottle, I combined white vinegar, salt, and washing-up liquid. All the ingredients were already in my kitchen cupboard, and I'd just emptied a spray bottle, meaning I didn't need to spend anything to create my weed killer.
I went outside and tried different sections of the patio. I ensured the weeds received a thorough coating and left them undisturbed until the following day. Upon returning to check the outcome, I was amazed to discover the weeds had withered and died. I could then extract the weeds far more simply than when they were still living.
The homemade weed killer impressed me because it's inexpensive to make and eliminates harsh chemicals. I'm already planning to prepare more once my bottle runs empty. Apply the mixture on a dry, sunny day to prevent it being washed away by rainfall. Blogger Moral Fibres also advises against using it on weeds growing in soil, as it can increase acidity in the ground, making it far better suited to patios and paved areas.
How to make a natural homemade weed killer Ingredients Method In either the spray bottle or a jug, combine the white vinegar and salt. Stir until fully dissolved. Add the washing-up liquid and mix thoroughly. If you've used a jug, transfer the solution into the spray bottle.
Clear any insects from the weed before use. Spray the solution directly onto the weed's leaves, ensuring they are thoroughly coated. For particularly large weeds, pour some of the mixture onto the plant as well as spraying the leaves. The weeds should start to wilt within a couple of hours. Left for 24 hours, they will have completely died off.
