Fred has been pictured with his agent on a private jet flying to Turkey to complete his move to Fenerbahce this weekend and unsurprisingly, he was smiling with the endearing grin that is rarely absent from his face.
That was epitomised as recently as last season when United played Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Europa League when Fred was guilty of losing Marcos Alonso for the opening goal before providing the assist for the equaliser. He was never worth the £52m paid to sign him from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 but that pricetag never seemed to burden him. He was unapologetically himself and he ignored the noise, even when he was made a scapegoat.
The 2021/22 season was the worst at Old Trafford for decades, but Fred was one of just a few players who emerged from the campaign with a degree of credit thanks to his performances in a more advanced role for Ralf Rangnick.
