'I'd have got a clip around the earhole': The streets where kids are 'running riot'

On the Stockport estate which has been plagued by violence and yobs causing mayhem in recent weeks, there are some who say they no longer feel safe going out at night.

The Manchester Evening News spoke to several people living in the area, some of whom gave a bleak picture. "I won't go out go out anymore", the 61-year-old local, who gave his name as Derek, said. "There's a little gang of about 15 of 16 of them, teenagers, and they just terrorise people. "They have been robbing phones. They battered one bloke who was on a disability scooter, they battered him and took his phone. He was in his sixties. I have a disability scooter myself which is why I don't come out at night anymore. Luckily I have a car so I can drive but if I want to go for a pint, I can't drive.

Another resident said: "I never see it because I stay at home away from it all, but you hear about it. I have lived here for 60 years and I love it, but you do get trouble. I just don't let anyone give me s***t." "You do get kids causing issues, but it's the same in every area. The teenagers seem to be getting worse by every generation. If it was me I would have got a clip round the earhole from the copper and then been taken home to my mum who would have given me another clip round the earhole.

Jackie Wedge, 60, agreed saying: "I work nights so maybe I don't see a lot of stuff but from my point of view, it's fine. In fact over the past 15 years I'd say it's got a lot quieter. You used to have certain ones but I think the police are clamping down on them now."
