Restoring an old Tassie farmhouse from Sydney had its challenges – and unexpected joys.

Binding the old and the new sections is a glass-and-steel atrium that wraps around the courtyard, which has outdoor seating and cooking facilities. “It’s a modern farmhouse hearth for outside entertaining,” says Strating of the courtyard, which is paved in local sandstone blocks.
