Basecamp North Lakes is to a 35-year-old woman what a sweetshop is to three-year old toddler
When you talk about farm shops there is one that is the king of them all. It stands proudly head-and-shoulders above the rest and even has its own TV show on Channel 4 - Tebay Service Station on the M6.
I'd completely missed their latest steps in business, which included taking over Basecamp North Lakes, which can be found along the A66 at Troutbeck, between Keswick and Penrith. Basecamp is an activity centre with its own lake, surrounded by their herd of alpacas and llamas. The cafe looks out onto the fells and the on-site lake and you can lose yourself just admiring the alpacas playing in the fields and roaming around. All the food served there is freshly made and the ingredients are sourced from local suppliers.
Outside there is a community garden and a sign saying new projects are in the pipeline. There were lots of pumpkins and lovely greens on that patch of land, which shows great potential. There are lots of self-care products such as scrubs and creams from Pringle and Fairweather, candles from Fellside Candles, moisturisers and body lotions by Pure Lakes.
