Tom Harvey said he has to make 'huge sacrifices' to get to this point
Now aged 19, Tom, from Woolton, clearly remembers the time he found a new hobby in combat sports. Tom told the ECHO: “I fought Thai boxing at the age of five. I went down to the gym and got involved straight away.
Tom said: “I’ve been training in MMA since about the age of 12. UFC specifically, it's one of the most watched things in recent years. It’s great to be a part of the next generation of fighters in the city.” Tom admits starting from so young has given him an advantage of the sport, even if it has meant he has had a very different adolescence to most, with no drinking or partying. He said: “It’s a lot of dedication, missing out on things that kids my age normally do. But obviously it’ll benefit me in later life because I know how far I can go.
“It never gets old but you just know that the hard work that people don't see is paying off. When you're getting the wins and getting bigger and people are messaging me, it's amazing.”
