At the Broncos’ media conference on Monday, star fullback Walsh could not contain his emotions when the line of questioning shifted to a subject close to his heart.
Reece Walsh became emotional on Monday when discussing the “best girl in the world”, for whom he left the club which gave him his NRL start and came home to Brisbane.
“I’m still so young, but I feel like if it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be in this position,” Walsh said. “I get emotional about it ... she’s awesome. I enjoy being a dad. She’s the best girl in the world and keeps me grounded.” Talking about Leila, Walsh said: “It’s been awesome, she calms me down. Last week, three or four days before the [Storm] game, I was stressing, and just having her around, it brings everything back to reality.“Not everything is about footy or your job. When I’m in the [Broncos] facility, I’m the footy player, when I step out and see my little one and family, I’m ‘dad’.
Walsh was handed his NRL debut by the Warriors, with some at the Broncos stunned he had been allowed to leave Red Hill the first time around.
