Gary Pallister spent nine years playing at the heart of Man Utd's defence and spoke to the MEN about the current team.
It's a rare achievement to represent England while competing outside of the first division but Pallister was a talented, emerging young centre-back at Middlesbrough.
Pallister recently sat down with the Manchester Evening News, in partnership with sports betting site BetVictor, and although he admitted an envious eye was cast from his living room on that night at Camp Nou, a year after he'd left, he could have no regrets about leaving United when he did. "The more you play together, the more you have an understanding and it becomes second nature. You know what your teammates are going to do, so we had that for a lot of years at United.
"You're putting Casemiro in there to try to fill spaces. It's just got worse and worse, and that's probably as bad as it gets against Crystal Palace the other night." "He gets what United are about, the fans were pleased to see him back and even they would say to give him another year contract. I think he's earned it and I think he'll get it."
The 31-year-old has demonstrated resilience to claw his way back into the starting United team and Pallister thinks he received similar treatment to the former club captain.
