'A lot of people see us as footballers, but we're humans before we're footballers.'
England and Tottenham striker Bethany England is speaking out to raise awareness of skin cancer Growing up in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Bethany England spent precious time hanging out with her grandad. They shared a love of football that fuelled her early passion for the game. ‘He was a big part of playing football with me in the park and I was around him a lot,’ says the Tottenham and England striker, 29, with a fond smile.
All the girls laugh and joke about it at training when they’re there with their tanning oils, but I know ultimately I don’t want to hurt myself and give myself any future damage.’ Bethany is a keen advocate for cancer charities such as Stand Up For Cancer, as her family has been hugely impacted by the disease. Her aunt, Tracy Fletcher, died at 42 after being diagnosed with leukaemia, while her great-grandmother died of throat cancer.
