Brisbane have lost another player for their grand final rematch against the Panthers, and his return to action is clouded.
The Broncos’ hopes of avenging their grand final defeat to the Panthers have suffered a blow, with Payne Haas ruled out on the eve of their rematch.
A comeback timeline remains unknown, with the 24-year-old to consult a specialist to determine the best course of action.Initial scans have not shown structural damage, and Walters did not believe it would keep him out of the game for an extended period.“He’s still got some problems there with his knee, so we’ll get that looked at this afternoon and the doctors will have a look at it and give us a better diagnosis of where he’s at,” Walters said.
Fletcher Baker will come into the starting side, with Xavier Willison garnering his first NRL appearance of the year off the bench.“No one likes missing games, particularly Payne, who probably is the most competitive and very team-orientated who feels like maybe that he’s letting the team down, when in actual fact he’s not,” Walters said.
The Broncos were already reeling from the loss of halfback and skipper Adam Reynolds, also to a knee injury, with Jock Madden stepping up to take his place.But Walters believed that even without his marquee duo, he had the side to defeat a Penrith unit – missing their key prop in James Fisher-Harris.
