Liam Cooper is starting on his new challenge in Bulgaria but has been speaking about a former Leeds team-mate
Liam Cooper saw a lot of changes in his 10 years at Leeds United. The Scotland defender spent a decade at Elland Road, and witnessed promotions and relegations, along with many managerial appointments.
But while the Scotland international has seen many players come and go over the years, he admits one player stood out immediately on his arrival at Thorp Arch. Midfielder Ilia Gruev may have taken a little while to break into Daniel Farke's first team, but once he was established, he quickly became one of the driving forces behind last season's promotion push.
“Ilia is a great person," he told his new club CSKA Sofia, in Gruev's native Bulgaria. "I liked him from the minute he came to Leeds. He has a great family and is very down to earth, easy to communicate with.
