That’s why, after decades of demands for better access to the countryside from campaigners across the UK, theand Access to the Countryside Act was passed on 16 December 1949 to enable the creation of national parks.
You can hike to the hilltop from the village of Baslow, or “cheat” and start from the car park at the top to get straight to the chunky gritstone formations, tumbled boulders and sweeping views – villages, hills, patchwork fields, and, in the distance, Chatsworth House.. Built in the 1700s, the 175-room pale limestone house mansion in the Derbyshire Dales makes a striking impression.
During advent, there are artisan markets, candlelight tours and choral performances. The house is decorated, too, including a massive tree in the Great Hall, where there’s also a roaring fire – the previous owners would have hosted banquets here, with boar’s head, peacock and swan on the menu.is tucked away here. A local success story, Thornbridge started out as a small craft brewer and now exports globally.
