Kelsey Binding trained to be a crane operator after becoming bored with her insurance job, now she wants to inspire young women
Sexist comments, having to work twice as hard as her male colleagues, and people questioning whether she's good enough.Kelsey Binding is one of only a handful of women working as a crane operator - with just seven in total in the UK. While the last few decades have seen enormous change in the gender demographic of workplaces, areas like construction are still heavily male dominated.
Fast forward four years and now Kelsey is an experienced mobile crane operator lifting everything from barges to wind turbines at Bryn Thomas Crane Hire. And she is very keen to get the word out to women and girls that they should follow their dreams if they want a career in the industry. Kelsey did have some challenges when she first started. She said she faced sexist comments from some of her colleagues.
"I feel like I had to prove myself a lot more because I'm a girl," she said. "It shouldn't be like that really."
