It is not surprising that profit has played a part in this new epidemic: while the medical profession was recommending vaping as harm reduction,This is why we now have high streets flooded with mass market disposable vapes designed to draw in children with sweet-shop flavours and cute colours. It’s not uncommon that I hear of young teenagers who vape in their bedroom, on their way to school and then of course the ubiquitous toilet puff during schooltime. It’s not even thought of as a naughty habit, like smoking: it’s just mentioned flippantly as if it’s a part of teen life. It’s certainly never why parents have come in to see me.
This would be ok if vaping was harm-free but of course it isn’t. Vaping may smell like sweet apples and bubblegum but they are devices to inhale nicotine. It is actually illegal to sell vapes to children but from what I see this regulation is not doing enough. tell us that as many as one in five 11 to 15-year-olds have used a vape and across all teenage age groups, this usage has doubled within a year.
