Niall Barry admitted 'falling out' with Ashley's boyfriend but denied he wanted him dead
The man accused of setting up the shooting that killed Ashley Dale told a jury "I'm not an angel" but denied he ever wanted her boyfriend to be killed.
The prosecution case is that Witham and Joseph Peers, 29, were "dispatched" to kill Harrison by Barry, 26; his friend Sean Zeisz, 28, and Ian Fitzgibbon, 28, who were allegedly directing the hit from a flat in Pilch Lane, Huyton. All five men deny murdering Ashley and conspiracy to murder Harrison and are standing trial at Liverpool Crown Court.
In another message, in which Ashley complained about a friend talking to Barry at the wake of a mutual friend, she said: ‘Not being funny but you meant to be my mate and my fella hasn’t come cos is saying he’s going to shoot him’". Barry responded: “No the prosecution case is completely wrong. This is a 41-year-old man who has done this off his own back, he had his own argument with this person, he has got his own money. I never ever got robbed by Lee Harrison himself, I got robbed by people associated with where his mum lives.
Barry said: "Word for word what I said was, if you carry on mentioning my name I’ll come down to the estate and punch your head in. I’ve never ever threatened to go to 40 Leinster Road, ever.”
