The family of four now spends much of their time in the outdoors, surfing in the ocean and enjoying the many days of sunshine
Matt Hapgood walking a clifftop trail from his new home with his children. He and his wife say they made the move to Portugal to spend more time outside in order to spend more time in the outdoors has said his new life is simpler, healthier and a better place for his children to grow up than the UK.The couple, who both enjoy surfing, had wanted to travel since 2012. “But then I got a job and we had two kids,” he tellsThen finally, five years ago, they made the move.
“I could go surfing every day if I wanted. The water is a really nice temperature all year round. In Wales, the sea gets really cold in the winter. It’s really depressing,” Mr Hapgood says, adding that now “the kids will ask why they have to go to the beach so much.” “In the UK, the food isn’t as fresh,” he says. “It’s ready meals and sugar. You go to a Wetherspoons, and it is all pre-made. But you can go to a Portuguese restaurant here and the food is cooked there.”
