It's the nation's favourite dish, but some fish and chips are not like others
From humble beginnings the takeaway has evolved to an artform. These days, whatever you're craving for your tea - be it curry, enchiladas, pad Thai, Cuban ropa vieja, or even a hearty bowl of scouse - it's all just a few clicks away on your app of choice.
It's regularly voted one of the best chip shops on Wirral, and last year won a Blue Ribbon accolade in the 2023/24 Good Food Awards. It also offers great views across the Dee to North Wales. As tempted as he was, my partner decided to stick with his initial craving - fish and chips, although he did add some curry sauce. The meal was priced at £12, while I opted for a pie dinner, swapping out the pie for a cheese and onion pasty, priced at £9.20. We also ordered a couple of cans of Pepsi, at £1.80 a tin.
I have to be honest, my pasty wasn't the greatest I've ever had. It looked a little sad and anaemic plonked on top of my chips, and when I initially cut into it the pastry flaked everywhere. The pastry in the corners however, was hard, and the cheese and onion filling was not exactly substantial, although what filling there was, was tasty.
