Speaking to Optus Sports, he said: "I've sat with Sir Alex today. It's really sad. I mean what he did for this football club everything that we enjoyed, the great times and everything. Ten Hag has had a net spend of £400million since taking charge just over two years ago and despite finishing eighth last season with speculation rife over his future, the Dutch head coach still has the backing of the United owners.
