Please read our Please read ourJust over a month ago I wrote about some of the embarrassing attention seekers amongst the Newcastle United fans.Back then I said ‘It happens after pretty much any defeat, these characters knowing they have to go even more extreme than the other embarrassing characters, in terms of the over the top criticism and abuse of the Newcastle United players and Eddie Howe, in order to try and be noticed, to get the attention they desperately crave.
What I am seeing time after time is Newcastle United fans writing / saying that we are really lucky to have Eddie Howe to take us forward, look at so many other clubs needing to appoint new managers, with Manchester United one of those potentially set to do so, after having done such a poor job at Old Trafford.
Good luck to them though because they did somehow get it done, they got a 4-3 win against Liverpool and then got it right in the final against an out of sorts Man City who got going far too late as Man U grabbed a couple of breakaway goals. It happens. In one-offs. However, before beating Man U in the 2023 FA Cup final, how many times had they won the competition in the previous 11 seasons?How can such a dominant club/team fail so many seasons in the FA Cup? Well, this is all part of the randomness of it, you just need to have one off day, plus at the very least you have to win two games on a neutral ground .
Whilst last year we did ok and had the momentum and some chances to take the lead, only for Man U to grab two goals and get the luck. Plus of course our top class keeper got himself sent off and missed the final, then with Dubravka cup-tied , our third choice keeper had to make his NUFC debut at Wembley. You really couldn’t make it up.
Despite their terrible recruitment over those recent years, Man U still had plenty players of a certain standard and not all signings had been disasters, plus a long established successful youth system producing the likes of Rashford. In 2021, Man City got to the Champions League final and played Chelsea. Man City had finished PL champions 19 points above Chelsea but they lost 1-0.
