All of the dishes contain at least one vegetable and I didn't even use the full ingredients on my shopping list
The cost of family meals has been shooting up and with the summer holidays upon us, many parents are feeling the pinch more than ever.
There were some ingredients left over, so you're looking at a £30 spend overall for the five dishes. And while we all know how much food prices have rocketed, it's less than a fiver's difference to what I was paying for the same ingredients this time last year. The easiest by far is the pasta dish, which I admit we have a little too often, but it's always a winner. It's nice with smoked salmon too, but with only two out of four of us liking salmon, it's often not worth the added cost of at least £3 a pack.
Peel, halve and slice the onions. In a large frying pan or wok, sauté the chicken, pepper and onions in some oil. Peel your spuds and boil them before draining and mashing with some butter, maybe a drop of milk if needed. Add some salt and pepper. Chop and boil or steam your carrots. Meanwhile, cut the sausages in half and put into a large roasting tray. Peel and cut the onions into quarters. Scatter these around the sausages. Put them in the oven on the shelf below the vegetables.
