Standing in front of a fridge marked 'blood and urine' isn't the usual start to a shift I was expecting
Stood in a room with tens of thousands of pounds of cash, cannabis packed in pillow case sized backs and a fridge marked ‘Blood and urine’, it’s fair to say it wasn’t the typical start to a shift.
Before heading onto the roads, LancsLive spoke with some of the senior officers involved in the departments who talked of the early results achieved. Within the first two months, this included seizing almost £400k cash and drugs worth more than £200k as well as making 92 arrests and recovering 60 stolen vehicles.
After a stop at the evidence store to see some of the items recovered by the unit, we headed out in those unmarked cars ready to intercept a vehicle which had been flagged as suspicious. While only limited details can be shared for operational reasons, the response involved a series of officers speedily heading to various checkpoints ready for when the car entered Lancashire.
Despite the well orchestrated operation proving to be something of a damp squib, officers remained upbeat about their actions before heading out to tackle other motorists who had prompted concern. Asked if it had been a waste of time, PC Stuart Duck said: “No because until we stop these people we never quite know. Sometimes, little snippets of intelligence and information can lead to much bigger things.
According to ACC Lawson, the changes were driven directly by the officers involved. He continued: “We know members of the public are rightly infuriated by dangerous driving and people who put others at risk on the roads, and we will continue to deal with this as a priority. However we now also have a new team which will be dedicated solely to bringing down those involved in serious criminality too.
