Women suffering complications from vaginal mesh implants, including after removal, are calling on the Government to overhaul the compensation process

“I was scheduled to go and see the consultant and have an operation based on the results of the urodynamics – which was the mesh,” she said. “It was like the sharp edges of it were stabbing me inside. And I had to wear pads all the time because I was constantly just spotting with blood because of it,” she added.
She opted for a complete removal of the mesh and is relieved it is now gone. But as a result her stress incontinence worsened, requiring her to take new medication and does not feel comfortable enough to start a new relationship.Some women are so desperate for the procedure they are travelling to the US and paying up to £30,000 for the procedure,Ms Sansom, 56, cannot run, jump or cycle anymore.
Ms Sansom said: “I would never have agreed to it if I knew a bit of permanent plastic was being put inside me.” The women received undisclosed payouts from three manufacturers of the products: Bard, Boston Scientific, and Johnson & Johnson.
