It's also been shortlisted for Takeaway of the Year
The Fish Bank, in Sherburn in Elmet, has been shortlisted to battle it out for the Takeaway of the Year title in the competition’s 2025 awards category. Converted out of a former NatWest bank, the chip shop in Lower Street is known for sourcing local haddock and serving up battered King Prawns.
The shop was spotless, ultra-clean with modern furnishings. While the stainless silver décor was sleek and clinical, there was warm service from the pair of young women behind the counter. As I was waiting in line I was asked if I wanted fish which must have shaved minutes off my wait time after ordering.
There were six king prawns and they lived up to their namesake as they were generously proportioned. The crustacean meat was suitably delicate and succulent. The flavour paired perfectly with the heavy oily batter. The chilli jam was equally as delectable, a really great innovation of the classic chip shop meal.
