'I turned to sex work after getting a law degree to afford childcare costs. I felt violated' 🔴 Mothers of children under the age of five have revealed they are undertaking sex work to meet the rising cost of childcare ✍️ AasmaDay
Anna, who graduated in law from a top London university, described how she became pregnant against her will at the hands of a domestic abuser and was attempting to rebuild her life. However, she says soon after finding the strength to leave her abuser for the sake of her unborn child, she was made redundant from her job as a trainee solicitor when she announced her pregnancy.
“I was absolutely exhausted from having a one-year-old who was still breastfeeding, working a full time job and my webcam job where I was sometimes online until 2am, only to get up at 6:30am the next morning. “Shortly after, my rent increased and I was back to square one with available cash,” recalls Anna. “The webcam work that I hated so much was my only saving grace. I was receiving final demands in relation to my utility and council tax arrears. I also received countless tickets for parking outside my own home due to a lack of available parking, meaning people had no choice but to park on yellow lines.
“I have no idea how I managed to go through with the sexual element of the session. The man smelled like he hadn’t showered for weeks and tried refusing to wear a condom. Anna gave up escorting permanently after two sessions, but continued with webcam work. Shortly after her son started primary school, she found a new job in a managerial role and hoped it would be the start of a life changing transformation. Instead, she found“Schools in the area offer no wrap-around care whatsoever,” she explains. “In order to continue working, I have to rely on an out-of-school club which runs until 5.30pm, followed by a childminder until 6.30pm when I get home from work.
