A former Oil Search executive who is suing the company for breach of contract says she’s speaking out about why she left the company because the legal process isn’t working.

Ayten Saridas has hit rock bottom. She is embroiled in legal action against Oil Search, out of pocket by close to $1 million, and attempting to prod the corporate regulator to act against her former employer.

So far, Saridas has let the court filings for breach of contract speak for themselves. But, after advice from her lawyers, she says now is the time to explain as a public interest disclosure why she is pursuing Santos – and what exactly happened at the Oil Search head office ahead of her departure. “I’ve put this [house] on the line,” she says. “If I lose this house I don’t care because I know what I’m doing is the right thing to do. I went into this going, I’m going to rectify the situation, I’m going to set the record straight about my reputation.“I want my voice back. They have been able to say and do whatever they want, and they kept holding the [non-disclosure agreement] in front of me as a threat. Not anymore. I don’t care.

Another concern raised by Saridas, she can now reveal, was that Oil Search was refusing to impair an asset – she will not disclose which – because doing so would have a negative impact on a legal dispute the company was embroiled in. She also claims that in early November 2020 she told Oil Search that internal forecasts indicated the company would “likely breach its bank covenants and that the external legal advice would be to be informed immediately to assist in seeking waivers.”

In her court claim for breach of contract, Saridas said she had been “treated with disrespect, belittled in front of others, lied to about certain events and bullied” after raising the alarm on “critical and urgent” funding issues.
