A healthy National Flood Insurance Program is necessary to stabilize the housing market

He lives in Point Loma. At the beginning of this year, our community was devastated by a historic storm, creating torrential rain and flooding. Although some things lost can never be replaced, flood insurance has significantly assisted our community and residents in reducing the cost and burden of cleanup.
2 million housing units potentially at risk in San Diego County and an average cost of $4.5 billion per flooding event, our community cannot afford Congress’ inaction. Since September 2017, Congress has allowed for three lapses to the National Flood Insurance Program during which the Federal Emergency Management Agency stopped selling and renewing flood insurance policies nationally until congressional funding for the National Flood Insurance Program was restored.
