'Just look straight ahead and jump.' With a deep breath, Fiona Whitty heeded Jacob's advice, leaping from the rocks into the sparkling sea below. Jacob cheered, the children applauded, and she emerged spluttering. She said the cold water crept into my wetsuit, I scrambled back to the rocks to jump again each time a bit higher. Being in Falmouth, Cornwall, a place so intertwined with the sea, you simply have to take the plunge. Coasteering seemed the perfect way to embrace it.
Tim and I decided to stay local, enjoying a couple of Cornish gins including Tinkture made with organic roses and a crisp sparkling wine from the Cornish vineyard, Camel Valley. The food and drink were exceptional a medley of freshness, flavour, and finesse. We managed to avoid a tiresome car journey by arriving in Falmouth on the overnight sleeper train. The Night Riviera service from Great Western Railway departs London Paddington at 11.45pm.
