"Pilling has also got a complete classless society. There's no hierarchy like there are in some villages, where you've got a Lord of the Manor and all of that. We've never had that, I think the village has always been able to do what it needed to do without any class distinctions." Funnily enough, it actually earnt its name because locals thought the engine sounded like a pig. Not only can you see this, but there are plenty of walks available too, including along Pilling Sands - an area of salt marsh that's popular with bird watchers.
