ECHO writer Ryan Paton went on a tour of Aintree Racecourse
I have covered the Grand National many times for the Liverpool ECHO. However, I was able to see it in a way I never have before when I embarked on a tour of Aintree Racecourse. The Jockey Club has launched a new experience so people can gain an all access look at the iconic steeplechase. My main experience of seeing the historic ground has always been during those busy three days in early April when thousands of people, dressed up to the nines, descend on L9 for the Grand National meeting.
A walk around the grounds and finding out the stories that have made the iconic steeplechase what it is today makes it really hit home just how much of a great shame it would have been to have lost the site to property developers, as it was proposed. The first Grand National was staged in 1839 and the second stop on the tour was the huge board that features the list of winners.
