'I was in John Worboys' taxi decades ago and ITV's Believe Me mirrors my story'

Believe Me is a haunting true crime drama on ITV which follows the victims of 'black cab rapist' John Worboys.

John Worboys was convicted in 2009 of 19 criminal offences against 12 victims. In 2019, Worboys was sentenced to life with a minimum term of six years after more victims came forward, which he admitted.

The black cab driver would offer women in his taxi champagne after suggesting he had won the lottery or significant sums in casinos. But the drinks were spiked and made the women incapacitated, which resulted in him raping or sexually assaulting his victims. Now, ITV has released a harrowing new drama titled Believe Me, which is based on the accounts of some of his victims and how the police had let them down during the investigations.

During Monday's episode of Good Morning Britain , Susanna Reid and Ed Balls spoke to Becki Houlston, who believes she was one of the women that Worboys drugged before he was convicted. The incident happened back in 2002 in Bournemouth after Becki had gone on a night out.

However, it wasn't until years later that she thought something may have happened to her that night after seeing Worboys' trial on the news. She told Susanna and Ed that Worboys' cab in Dorset was unusual, as all of the taxis at the time in Bournemouth were yellow, although he told Becki he both worked and lived in the two areas.

Becki added: "He is so premeditated, from the minute you get in the cab, he is already grooming you for what he has in mind for you. You just want to get home safely, so he is on the story from the minute you get in the cab.

"For me, it was because he had had a big win at the casino, and he wanted to celebrate, but he couldn't celebrate because he was driving the cab. It's identical to all the women's stories I've seen on the drama series.

" Susanna then highlighted that, as Worboys was unable to celebrate his 'win', he encouraged Becki to have a glass of champagne. She replied: "That's putting it mildly, encouraging, he is manipulative, he makes you feel so guilty for not celebrating.

" Becki then shared that Worboys was relentlessly in conversation with her the whole journey. Describing the drink as 'bitter and warm', Becki shared that it was clear she wasn't drinking it fast enough for his liking, and he started stalling her paying the fare to keep her in the car.

She added: "My last memory, that I know is solid, this only came to light when I did my police interview, was I recall, why was he sat in the passenger side of the cab? That was on the pavement side of where we were parked up.

" Becki explained that she doesn't know what happened between her last memory with Worboys and waking up the next day, when she saw the plastic cup on the side of the kitchen sink. In 2008, when she saw the media campaign on the black cab rapist, Becki realised it was Worboys, as the story was identical.

Becki is unsure if Worboys made it into her flat, admitting she's spent years wondering if he worked out which one she lived in and what key would get him inside. Admitting that there is a possibility that he could've assaulted her, she replied: "I try to hold onto the fact that the cup in the kitchen tells me that I probably got home and I didn't feel ill the next day, that's another distinguishing factor for me.

" Speaking about the ITV documentary, Becki commented: "There were so many moments in that that mirror exactly and identically my experience as well. I thought the actor did a phenomenal job of playing him. I learnt a lot more about the case as well, which I was unaware of, which has been really helpful to me.

" However, Becki told Susanna and Ed that she has great concerns as his wider offending outside London has never been fully acknowledged. Believe Me is available to watch on ITVX. Good Morning Britain is available to watch on ITV weekdays from 6am.
