Steve William shares what happened when he went hunting for ghosts in Speke Hall
From the Victorian bogeyman Spring-Heeled Jack said to have been seen lurking on the streets of Everton, to Bold Street's famous time slips in the mid 90s, the city has a rich history of paranormal goings on.
With tales of children that haunt the premises and the famous story of the woman who threw her baby into the moat from her bedroom window, you can see why the hall has been branded one of the most haunted places in Merseyside. Stuart and Lorraine highlighted some of the incidents that had occurred and the rooms in which most of the activity takes place. Stuart is relatively sceptical, but still always feels as if someone or something could be present when he goes to switch the hall's lights off at night.
The room had two very notable cold spots, which impacted on the thermometer and also set off the electronic magnetic field detector, which is normally seen as an indication of a paranormal entity. We then ventured to Edward’s bedroom, where a ladder leads to priest hide, used to conceal holy men during the persecution of Catholics in England in the 16th century. The room was really dark, very old and very creepy.
We then moved to the bedroom centred around the famous story about the woman who threw her baby out of the window into the moat. Staff explained the story is a myth, and that the woman and child actually moved to London.
