Birmingham City striker Alfie May reveals his story of how he worked on building site and now is League One top scorer for Tom Brady's Blues
Birmingham star Alfie May has went from being a builder and non-league star to scooping the PFA League One Player of the Year award.It was the third consecutive campaign that the striker has fired in at least 20 league goals, which caught the eye of big-spendingas a minority owner, targeted May as the player to help spearhead them back into the Championship following their relegation to League One .
It caps a remarkable rise up through the English pyramid for May, who had to wait until he was 23 to be signed by a professional club in January 2017. A return of 67 goals in 165 games saw him snapped up by Charlton last summer, with his heroics at The Valley seeing him win the Golden Boot. "And when I got the chance to go to Cheltenham, I sort of just changed my mentality and just tried to secure a spot in the team and score goals."
"And Darren Ferguson, when he called me at work, I was delighted when he said that there was a two-and-a-half-year contract sitting there."
