SUNDAY MAIL EXCLUSIVE: The former Westminster leader hesitated when asked if the First Minister could rebuild the SNP and dismissed Joanna Cherry as 'bitter'.
Former SNP Westminister leader Ian Blackford admitted the party are backing First Minister John Swinney to turn around the party’s woes because “there isn’t really anybody else.”
“I don’t think anyone is pointing the finger at John and saying he has to go. He’s inherited this and he has to own it in terms of fixing it. On election night, former Edinburgh South West MP Joanna Cherry pointed the finger at Blackford as well as former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon for the near wipe-out of MPs.
“I have to look at everything I did when I was Westminster leader and of course I did have a good relationship with Nicola. Should I have pushed more on certain things? I don’t know.“When I was Westminster leader at the 2019 election we returned 48 MPs. We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
